There is no time like the present.
机不可失,时不再来。
there is no time like后面加一个时间，表示没有比...更好的时候了，后面可加to do something,表示没有比...更好的时候去做某事。
例：
There is no time like the present to talk with him.
没有比现在更好的时间去和他谈谈话了。
There is no time like Christmas to show your love to people around you.
没有比圣诞节更好的时候去向你身边的人表达你的爱。
Don't ask him to do anything, he is a slacker.
他是个懒散的人，别叫他去做任何事。
slack做动词时有马虎从事的意思，slacker则表示一个敷衍取巧者，能不做事就不做事的人，这是比较口语的用词。
例：
Don't count on a slacker to help.不要指望一个敷衍塞责的人来帮你。
The rain has let up, so we can play outside.
雨停了，我们可到外边玩了。
let someone down是指让某人失望，相当于 disappoint someone。但并没有let someone up这个用法，let up是指持续久的事停止下来，如大雨`大火等。
例：
The big fire finally let up.大火终于停了。 |
